By early 1989, Willem had seen enough of being a plumber. He wanted something different and got in touch with Bert Heemskerk. Willem's question, "Do you have something for me?" was answered positively after just one hour. A job as a line driver in England had just become available. Only two weeks Willem was inducted and after that he was on his own. No understanding (yet) of flowers, so he was forced to use stickers to put the names of the flowers on the packages.

In addition, flowers bring comfort and a token of sympathy to the family and loved ones of the deceased. In 1985, A.Heemskerk BV was looking for English-speaking salespeople. Since Hans van Gent had spent six months in Australia, the language was not a problem. The first time for real, the other 7 to get a day off from defence and join a line, to learn the trade. On the first visit, Hans came to the interview neatly dressed.
